Remedial works

The need to carry out remedial repairs to your water system can arise from various sources such as a legionella risk assessment, a monitoring visit, audit or simply an internally identified fault.

To ensure that these works are carried out in conjunction with the latest legislation and guidance it can often be beneficial to use a specialist contractor for this. HydroChem has over 35 years of experience of completing these types of works to a high standard, ensuring our clients are not only compliant, but receive outstanding levels of service.

Our engineering and remedials services include but are not limited to:

  • Deadleg and deadend pipework removal
  • TMV installation, servicing & testing
  • Pipework replacement
  • Tank replacement, refurbishment, and insulation
  • Descales, chemical cleans and disinfections
  • Hot and cold water systems design and installation
  • Installation of chemical dosing pots
  • Side stream filtration

DEAD LEG/END REMOVAL – REMOVAL OF LENGTHS OF UNUSED PIPEWORK

Lengths of unused pipework have little to no water flow, this creates a stagnant breeding ground for harmful pathogens such as pseudomonas and legionella bacteria. Where possible these should be removed from the pipework entirely.

TMV REPLACEMENT / INSTALLATION – FITTING OF TMV’S IN ACCORDANCE WITH GUIDANCE

TMV’s are essential in preventing at risk groups from scalding. Risk assessments will often identify areas requiring additional protection from scalding risks through the installation of a TMV. TMV’s and TMT’s may also require replacing if they are found to be faulty during a service or fail-safe check.

WATER TANK REMEDIATION – ENSURING WATER STORAGE TANKS MEET LEGISLATION

Supply and fit ball valves which can be used to adjust volume in tank. Fit warning and overflow pipe to discharge outside a building or in a noticeable location. Supply fitted lids and screens to prevent access by dust, insects, birds, small rodents, and other debris. Configure internal sparge pipes, to avoid linking multiple water storage tanks due to operational difficulties and problems with unequal flow rates and possible stagnation.  Bypassing unnecessary tanks If water storage tanks are no longer required or storage of water is too high for peak needs and results in stagnation within the tank. Cold water storage tank insulation which is carried out to minimise heat loss/gain.

CALORIFIER DESCALES AND REMEDIALS

It is often assumed that if temperatures are satisfactory at the flow and return then there are no issues within the calorifier. It is critical to ensure that calorifiers store water at 60 degrees Celsius minimum with a return of 50 degrees Celsius minimum, there are however other considerations. Calorifiers should be drained and inspected annually if they have an inspection hatch. If the bundles and/or internal surfaces are found to be scaled, then the calorifier should be descaled. HydroChem circulate a specialist chemical to remove all scale.

INSULATION – FITTING OF INSULATION TO TANKS AND PIPEWORK

The fitting of insulation to tanks and pipework can be carried out to minimise heat loss / gain. Heat gain in tanks and pipework can be caused through warm weather conditions along with proximity to other heat sources (such as hot water pipes). Loss of heat from pipes through a lack of insulation is both expensive and harmful to the environment.

BACKFLOW PROTECTION – INSTALLATION OF CORRECT CATEGORY OF BACKFLOW PROTECTION

Water regulations state that every fitting through which water is supplied for domestic purposes should be installed in such a manner that no backflow can take place. We fit double check valves which are devices consisting of two valves which permit water flow only in one direction.

VALVE REPLACEMENTS – REPLACEMENT OF FAULTY VALVES

Various types of valves are often fitted to the water system, these can sometimes become worn, seized, or broken and may require to be replaced. These can come in a variety of types including ball valves, gate valves, butterfly valves, globe valves, pressure relief and pressure relief valves.
