Safe Building

The Safe Building programme is an adjunct to Safe Water in that it may be used in conjunction with it or as a stand alone regime, as it implies to make the building and its environs Safe.

 Safe Building protocols allow for the integrity of a building or site be made, kept clean and environmentally sound. The protocols used primarily are the sampling, testing, cleaning and remediation of mould, spores and fungal contamination with certification of areas treat on final completion of the process.

What are Moulds, Spores, Fungi.

Fungi or more commonly referred as mould, is the oldest most prolific and resilient organism in nature. Fungi consumes nutrients, reproduce and develop wastes and offspring in the form of spores (seeds) and off gases. Spores can be dormant for years until the right conditions develop ( humidity, temperature etc). A single spore can generate 10,000 spores every 72 hours. Moisture (humidity) therefore is the main cause of problems with lack of ventilation. Without treatment and effective removal it cause much damage and health related problems in Buildings, Mobile Homes (caravans) and Public Transport Vehicles. It can be internal or external in its development on surfaces.

Exposure Risks.

Allergenic Potential, sensitivity to moulds, are common and are asthmatic to allergy sufferers. Mould induced hypersensitivity pneumonitis is the most common diagnosis for these sufferers. Resultant main health problems and concerns can be induced.

  • Toxigenic Potential

    Some moulds are classified as "Toxigenic Mould". These can produce poisonous compounds called Mycotoxins and are linked to long term illness. Contaminated buildings may contain in their environment, Aspergillus, Penicillium, Chladosporium, Stachybotrys and many more. All with resultant no go areas which have got to be isolated to meet with Health and Safety and personnel exclusion zones.

  • Infection Potential

    Many species of mould attack the human body, these are however in most cases little more than an ongoing annoyance. Some have unfortunately life threatening infections that lead to serious health implications for humans. Exposure to these indoors and contact with these strains of fungi is the leading cause for the transmission and resultant medical emergencies that have been seen.

  • Protocol

    This is usually set in a method statement before the carrying out of any work.
